A Marketer’s Quick Thoughts on Social Media: Part Two
I’m so glad you could join me for Part Two of Quick Thoughts on Social Media! If this is your first time clicking, please enjoy part one of this blog before diving into Part Two. If you have already had the chance to read Part One, I’m glad you came back for more!
While there are books and thousands more being written at this very moment on how to utilize social media for the optimal results, here are some of the points that I believe hold true no matter your end goal.
- Don’t be a bore!
Social media is meant to be fun, relatable, creative and engaging! If you plan on lecturing millennials in your ads, you may not be in the right place. Find innovative ways to be engaging without being preachy. If you aren’t having fun with your social media marketing, what makes you think your audience will?
- Be true to yourself and your brand
You know your client and you know your brand. Be true to who you are representing. If you find yourself losing your brand for the sake of a like or comment, re-evaluate your plan, modify and start over.Social media users can smell inauthenticity a mile away. Make sure you know what message you are trying to convey and follow through. Stop thinking of your audience as numbers and think of them as people. How would you feel about this content? How does this make you feel as a consumer? It’s easy to forget you are a consumer as well. This outlook will allow you to think of your content with a more holistic outlook. Your goal is to make your audience believe in your brand and your product. If you are not being authentic, more than likely, your audience will know and not trust you.
- Talk to your audience!
The first rule of social media is to be social! Hold a conversation with your audience. Don’t be afraid of asking them their opinions on your products. Yes, it takes the time to speak with your customers, but it will show them that you are listening. Ask them for their input on your next launch or where you should film your next commercial. Including your customer in the formation of your brand gives them the incentive to come back and see if you are listening. This also keeps you relevant in the conversation.
- Breathe!
Social media is forever changing and even when you feel like you are ahead, you may be behind. Take your time to research and learn more about the products that your social media platforms are offering and be picky with where and how you spend your time and resources. I just simply ask that you always look to progress and don’t get stuck on one social media mix or platform. Never be afraid to explore. Lastly, don’t get overwhelmed by the things you are not aware of, instead, master what you do know and explore new possibilities.
Good luck and most importantly, have fun!
Your Social Media Enthusiast,
Alena-
