Third Wave Digital Receives National Recognition for Web Design
Third Wave Digital's web design and development work was recently recognized on the national level by the American Association of Museums at their annual Muse Awards competition. The Muse Awards, now in its fourteenth year, were created to recognize excellence in all varieties of media programs produced for museums. The 2003 national competition received a record number of applications (161) from a wide variety of North American, European, Australian, and Asian museums.
The Media and Technology Standing Professional Committee of the American Association of Museums coordinated the jury selection and the distribution of 9 gold, 8 silver, 7 bronze, and 7 honorable mention Muse Awards among six categories during a special ceremony at the AAM annual conference held in Portland, Or. The web site Third Wave Digital created for the Museum of Aviation, http://www.museumofaviation.org, was awarded one of the prestigious Golden Muse awards in the category of "Institutional/Promotional."
Phyllis Hecht, Director of the National Gallery of Art, acted as the Judging chair for this year's Muse Awards and had this to say about the competition, "In the category Institutional/Promotional, entrants used web sites, videos, in-house kiosks and other mixed media to get the word out about their institutions with informative content and high-quality graphics in a concise, dynamic manner." Hecht added, "The Museum of Aviation web site received a Golden Muse award for its engaging content, snappy graphics, cool sound effects, ease of navigation, appropriate use of technology, and all around consistency and cohesiveness.
Even for those not interested in aviation, the site conveyed tremendous excitement about flying and flight technology. The site was also very user-friendly and included games and interactivity that both children and adults could enjoy." The Museum of Aviation web site was also recognized by the American Advertising Federation's (AAF) annual Central Georgia Advertising Federation awards ceremony held earlier this year. At the CGAF awards the web site was awarded top honor with a Gold Addy award in the Interactive Media category and also won the overall "Best of Show" award with the highest score in the competition.
This marks the third year in a row that Third Wave Digital has won the CGAF's Best of Show Award. Bart Campione, President of Third Wave Digital, had this to say about the AAM's Golden Muse Award, "The Museum of Aviation's web site pushed our team to apply every ounce of creativity, skill and talent to create a web presence equal to the excitement and energy found at one of the nation's premier museums, we couldn't be more pleased with the AAM's acknowledgement of that work and effort."
